Since launching Soltan in the 1930s we have driven sunscreen innovations and given our customers access to the highest quality sun protection.
We started working on a new generation of sunscreen after researchers at the University of Oxford highlighted the limitations of existing raw materials. Working closely with the university we were able to overcome these issues and the research was later spun-out to form Oxonica.
The resulting material, Optisol™, was first introduced into Soltan products back in 2005. This milder, longer lasting new form of filter offers higher levels of absorption of both UVB and UVA rays. It eliminates the problem of free radicals caused by exposure to harmful UV rays, helping to prevent cell damage and premature ageing. Today Optisol™ is used throughout our Soltan range to deliver enhanced UVA protection and a more balanced UVA/UVB formulation. As well as being ideal for delicate skin, including children, its light diffusing particles also give skin an instantly radiant appearance.
The Optisol technology now resides within the portfolio of the UK-based, market-leading speciality ingredient manufacturer, Croda, and it continues to work closely with Boots, sharing insight and formulation know-how to provide technology driven solutions to meet the needs of the Soltan family of products. Together we give our customers long-lasting enhanced protection to the sun’s harmful rays, and continue to be one of the UK's best-selling suncare ranges.
